Working with sheet metal
Crimping sheets
Crimping means that a narrow sheet edge is folded back by a full 180°. Here you achieve an elegant and effective edge protection as well as stabilization of the sheet to safeguard against sagging.
The procedure is the same as that described above under 'Straight bends'. However for a crimp you need a sheet projection of 1015 mm.
Due to the relatively high bend resistance of this very short sheet side, it must first be carefully bent to 90° with a hammer.
Then anchor the sheet flat on the workbench and knock the short sheet side completely around with a hammer in many careful taps. The small sheet deformations do not detract from its appearance, as they are on the underside of the sheet.
Painting
Metal sheets can be painted well. We recommend car spray paints for this, because these ensure a uniform coat of paint and good bonding. Before painting, the sheets must be clean, free of grease and dust, and totally dry.
The sheet to be painted and the spray paint can must also be at room temperature!
Paint in a dust-free, warm room.
Tip: The best result is achieved if the paint is applied in multiple applications, and after each application a drying time of at least 5 minutes is maintained. This prevents spotting and gives you optimal paint cover.
