Tile edgings
Step edging profiles
Step coverings and their edges are subject to much higher physical stress than other areas of flooring. The key here is to effectively protect the step edges. It is also important to form them so that they prevent slipping. We offer different profiles for this purpose in our product line. Depending on the application, you can choose from a wide variety of colors, shapes, and materials.
Stone or tile steps are extremely slippery when wet. If the edges of the steps are made of the same material as the steps then this represents a life-threatening hazard. Special anti-slip edges that are permanently bedded in mortar have the disadvantage that they can no longer be replaced if worn.

Here you see the optimal solution: a replaceable step edging profile. This means: if the rubber wears out it can be easily replaced. Even if the complete aluminium profile should wear out it can also be easily replaced.

'Simple' step edging profile
The 'Simple' step edging profile has a non-slip contour. This gives you a safe step edge. Because the profile is enclosed it is more stable and can be grouted more easily.
Aluminium, uncoated, with alfer®-fix universal hole pattern
Step edging profiles in uncoated aluminium are the least expensive alternative to anodized or powder-coated aluminium. Users also have the choice of varnishing these profiles themselves.
Aluminium, anodized, with alfer®-fix universal hole pattern
Step edging profiles in anodized aluminium have a special finish that does not change with moisture. Tile adhesive and grout can tarnish the surface, which is why visible areas should be cleaned after the tile is laid.

User tips
As the rounded cavity on our 'Simple' step edging profile is enclosed, you do not need to specially fill this with tile adhesive before tiling, but instead can simply grout this when you have finished. If the steps are subject to very heavy use, you can screw the profile into the holes provided.
The profiles with alfer®-fix universal hole pattern have a special perforation system with the largest possible perforations to allow the adhesive or mortar to penetrate for an optimum contact area between tile and substrate, furthermore with round and long perforations. You can use these to nail or screw the profile on, e.g. for pre-fixing in the wall area. This will make the later work stages easier.
