Tile edgings
Quarter round profiles and accessories
Whereas ceramic surfaces used to be applied somewhat inconspicuously, now they are used as a designer feature in rooms. New plumbing and front-wall installations offer design options with tiled shelves, corners, and dividing walls.
Depending on personal taste, rounded end profiles can be added to give a harmonious or contrasting look to a room’s coloring and styling.
When two tiled surfaces come together at 90°, you get an unattractive corner as shown here in the picture. The unglazed tile edge is visible.
|
To obtain an attractive looking and mechanically protected tile corner, you should add a tile edging profile to it.

The quarter round profile is suitable for external corners on tiled floors and provides effective protection for tile edges. The profiles are symmetrical and as a result always give the same optical effect. As the profiles are enclosed, they are more stable and can be grouted more easily.
Aluminium, uncoated, with alfer®-fix universal hole pattern
Tile edgings in uncoated aluminium are the cost-effective alternative to anodized or powder-coated aluminium. Users also have the choice of varnishing these profiles themselves.
Aluminium, anodized, with alfer®-fix universal hole pattern
Tile edgings in anodized aluminium have a special finish, which does not show signs of alteration even when exposed to damp. Tile adhesive and jointing compound can tarnish the surface, which is why visible areas should be cleaned after installation.
Aluminium, powder-coated, with alfer®-fix universal hole pattern
Tile edgings in powder-coated aluminium are available in various colors and can therefore be matched to the color of the tiles. The coating adheres very well and is resistant to impact.
Plastic (hard PVC), with alfer®-fix universal hole pattern
Plastic tile edgings are the cheapest version and are suited to normal mechanical loads. Damp conditions no longer affect their finish and they are resistant to various chemicals.

User tips
The quarter round profiles not only look good, they are also technically advanced, e.g. the lugs at the end of the quarter circle: these act as a relief cut and effectively prevent the grout from seeping out.
With two or three butting profiles you can miter these to form an external corner or select a matched color quarter circle external tile corner from our product line that you can simply place on. For two butting profiles you can miter these to form an internal corner or select a matched color quarter circle inside tile corner from our product line that you can simply place on.
If you want to use a quarter round profile on the external corner of a wall, first of all you tile one wall and then apply adhesive to the corner of the other wall. You then press the profile into the adhesive and align it properly. You can now apply adhesive to the whole area and press on and align the remaining tiles.
The profiles with alfer®-fix universal hole pattern have a special perforation system with the largest possible perforations to allow the adhesive or mortar to penetrate for an optimum contact area between tile and substrate, furthermore with round and long perforations. You can use these to nail or screw the profile on, e.g. for pre-fixing in the wall area. This will make the later work stages easier.
